Teen Girls and the Benefits of Martial Arts
Coordination, agility, and fitness are all key benefits of practicing a martial arts lifestyle. But, for teenage girls in particular, the benefits include a mental aspect as well.
The teen years are ripe with experimentation, peer pressure, and just a sense of learning who you really are. Martials arts provides these young women with an improved self-esteem and the ability to overcome challenges, which in turn builds character and helps in the decision-making process.
We all want our teen girls to make good decisions.
There’s a certain confidence a parent feels when knowing his or her daughter can defend herself, as well as knowing she’s confident enough to say “no” to a situation she’d rather not be in.
Martial arts can teach your teen that in order to get respect, you must give respect. It’s a mutual process in the dojo just as much as it is in life. Self-respect can also be a challenge, but for these young women enrolled in a martial arts program, self-respect is strength of character. And strength of character in teen girls is just as important—if not more so—than physical strength.
We at Zen Dojos invite you and your teen to check out our classes, learn some great techniques, and make some new friends.
